The court battles for patent rights between the Nokia and Quallcomm companies are still going one. As reported by Reuters, the court resolved the case in favour of the Finnish corporation. However no statements about damages or fines were made yet, as of now. Judge Paul Luckern's verdict states that no infringement of patent rights was found in Nokia's actions. The ITC board are going to inspect the case further to issue the final conclusion.
The Nokai representants welcomed the verdict with applause and expressed hope that this will give start to a series of future victories over Quallcomm in the upcoming lawsuits. However the Quallcomm company intend to appeal against the court decision and file a petition for reopening of case.
The court proceedings involving the two companies have been lingering for years. Both accuse each other of mobile technology patent rights infringements. Now Quallcomm are trying to put a ban on selling a number of Nokia products in the US which are claimed to be utilizing the illegal solutions. Nokia, besides trying win a resolution that would ban import, are planning to force their opponents to pay royalties on the products in question. Both parties are holding their ground. The future of the case largely depends on what ITC will say about Luckern's verdict.
