The popularity of 3G in Europe is growing
SMAPE  News   The popularity of 3G in Europe is growing

The research conducted by the GSM Association (GSMA) showed a 75% growth of data transferred while in roaming mode during the period from April 2007 to April 2008. The number of 3G users increased twice for the same period of time and the average price for the international roaming traffic decreased 25%.

According to the GSM Association, there are about 112 million 3G users in Europe at present, which makes about 22.5% of the whole number of mobile end-users. For reference, the share of 3G users in the USA and Canada is 18.4%.

The data got from the 38 European carriers show the average price for a megabyte in the EU to be €5.06 in late March 2008. At the turn of 2007 one megabyte cost €5.62.

"We expect prices to continue to fall as operators further innovate around tariffs and more and more Europeans use these services as a part of their everyday lives," stated the chief government and regulatory affairs officer at the GSMA, Tom Phillips.
