Nokia are going to announce an S60 handset powered by the touch technology. The first product to feature the evolutionary platform update is Nokia 5800, the new XpressMusic smartphone commonly referred to as Tube.

The S60 Touch interface was intitially presented to the public at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Our inuitial expressions are related in this article: In a nutshell, the platform is more on the evolutionary side to keep the interface maximally recognizable and successive.

Nokia 5800 comes with a 3.2” TFT screen featuring a 640x360 resolution with a 16M colors palette which is fully responsive to the touch, something the fans of S60 have been long dreaming of, jealous of the competitive Symbian UIQ. The XpressMusic brand associated with the new phone goes contrary to the earlier rumors suggesting a new product line codenamed XpressMedia about to be started with the release of Tube.

The device will be powered by S60 5th Edition and equipped with an integrated accelerometer. Let's compare the measurements of 5800 to those of N82 and SonyEricsson W950i:

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is as large as 115x52x14.5 mm and weighs 104 g - not bad for such a functionality. The smartphone is equipped with a 3 Mp auto-focusing camera powered by Carl Zeiss optics, a double LED flash and a geo-tagging function basing off the onboard GPS / A-GPS unit.

The phone has a formidable connectivity potential: a quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support, UMTS/HSDPA, Wi-Fi b/g, Stereo Bluetooth with A2DP support, USB 2.0, TV-out and standard 3.5 mm audio jack. Nokia 5800 XpressMusic will carry a 140 Mb of onboard memory and will support microSD storage expansion cards, up to 8 Gb. The new handset is powered by a high-capacity BL-5J 1320 mAh battery.

According to the official statements by the company representatives made exclusively for our site, the announce is planned for late September, the starting price for Europe is 360 euros. This makes the new model a likely bestseller and one of the most expected smartphones of the upcoming weeks.
