Samsung have officially announced their second 8 Mp cameraphone dubbed M8800, alternatively known as Brensson. This is the opening entry in the Pixon new product line of hi-end cameraphones. The new gadget is remarkable for combining a touchscreen interface and a 8 Mp cam for the first time in history. The closest possible alternative is Samsung i900 Omnia, using a vaguely similar interface. Yet, M8800 is a conventional handset lacking any Windows Mobile powers but preserving the brand widget system and a similar camera interface. Even the accelerometer switches the screen orientation with a similar animation. Smape's readers now get an exclusive opportunity to get some hot info on M8800 the next instant after the worldwide announce.

LG KC910 Renoir is widely thought to be a direct challenge to Brensson, the former appearing in October priced around 550 euros. Samsung are also going to launch their new touchscreen cameraphone during the final days of October, priced around a same value. The biggest market advantage of M8800 is the promotional campaign of an unimaginable scale prepared by the company, something KC910 will be bitterly missing. As a result, the Samsung product is going to enjoy more popularity regardless of an expectedly higher price and worse functionality (unlike the competitor, it isn’t going to have Wi-Fi or GPS).

M8800 utilizes a Qualcomm MSM6281 chipset and comes with a 100 Mb of onboard memory, optionally expandable with a microSD flash card. The screen is the same with i900 Omnia, being a 3.2’’ wide piece with a resolution of 240x400. It is powered by the TFT technology and displays some real quality yet isn’t ideal, the screen image looks a bit grainy. Wireless connectivity is limited to Bluetooth only. The RDS-compatible FM tuner is right there in the place. But you won’t get any of the GPS or Wi-Fi functionality – a very nasty thing considering the availability of a more functional and less expensive analog designed by LG. So percentage of the target audience are going to take preference of KC910 because of that.

Camera is the most intriguing aspect of M8800. It uses a CMOS 1/3.2’’ matrix, sports a macro distance of 10 cm and has a 4x digital zoom. The maximum photo resolution is 3264x2448, videos are recorded at 640x480, 30 fps. The camera interface looks as shown in the pictures below:

The size and weight are average: 107.9x54.6x14.9mm and 110 g.
