MetroPCS announces the Samsung R410
Free unlimited calling plans are MetroPCS’s forte, but they just don’t have any youth-oriented messaging phones. As such, MetroPCS has announced that they are picking up the horizontally-sliding Samsung R410 to boost their wireless stable. What’s with the horizontal slider, you ask? Why, it reveals a full QWERTY keyboard for the text-messaging set.

Nokia patent pumps up the megapixels
Seems like Nokia aren't wasting any time and have filed a patent application on an extraordinary new slider cameraphone. Besides the intriguing construction Nokia-N93-style, the fine print under the camera lens sounds tasty, as it says either 6 or 8 megapixels. Anyways, in both cases it is not something we see in mobile phones every day so at least it deserves a look.

3G iPhone confirmed for 2008
It seemed unlikely that Apple could go any other way, but AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson finally confirmed that 2008 will see the iPhone upgraded with 3G connectivity. The handset, which has been robustly criticised for making use of last-gen EDGE data rather than one of the newer, faster technologies, was limited to the slower network as the company felt battery life would suffer unduly from power-hungry 3G chips. Speaking at a meeting of the Churchill Club in California, Stephenson told reporters querying the updated phone that "you’ll have it next year".
